Intro to Star Wars

Tyler told us the other day that he wanted "to watch the movie Star Wars like his friend Jet." So this morning was Tyler's first experience with a Star Wars movie. He loved it and here are his two big "takeaways" from the movie:

1. "Darth Vader sounds like a Deceptacon."
2. "Luke has the blue light sword and Darth Vader has a red light sword."

House Decorations

As soon as I walked in the door today, Tyler came running up to me and said, "Dad! Dad! Guess what?! We decorated the house for Easter today!"
Take a look...

Looks like we need to talk about the differences between Easter and Halloween. hahaha!

Tyler: "Dad can I read you a book tonight?"

Thank you iPad for helping Tyler read me a book tonight. :)

Tyler's Wish

After I turned off the light to put Tyler to bed last night, right before I left the room, Tyler sighed and said:

"Dad, I wish that you could be an Autobot like Tyler, Mom and Rigby."

Ha, hopefully I can reach "Autobot" status like the rest of my family soon.

An Evening Swim

After I swam in a relay at Queen Creek pool tonight Tyler said: "Dad, I didn't think you knew how to swim in the big pool."

Brothers or Enemies?

Perhaps foreshadowing many future "battles" in our house....

Tyler: I am the fastest and strongest Autobot.
Me: Is Rigby a transformer too?
Tyler: Yeah, but he is a Deceptacon.

Hahaha.

When Mom Leaves...

Some of you have said that you have never seen Rigby cry. This happens every single time Kristin leaves the house....

Whats for dinner?

Rigby can't walk or talk yet, but he knows good food when he sees it. Look at him grab a spoon and try to join the party at Filibertos. That's my boy!

What can you spell backwords?

Last night we went into Mesa to have dinner with my parents and my Grandpa Schlessman. At dinner Tyler was showcasing the different words that he knows how to spell:

Tyler: Grandma, I can spell my name. T - Y - L - E - R
Kristin: Can you spell "mom?"
Tyler: Yup. M - O - M
Kristin: Can you spell "dad?"
Tyler: D - A - D

Everyone clapped and then being funny my Grandpa Schlessman asked Tyler if he can spell "mom" or "dad" backwards. Without thinking this was Tyler's reply:

Tyler: No, I can't spell those words backwards. But I CAN spell Tyler backwards, R - E - L - Y - T.

We have checked in with all of Tyler's aunts, uncles and grandparents and no one has ever taught him to spell his name backwards. Kristin and I have never taught it to him and we have never, ever heard him do that before.

How big is your family?

This past weekend we got to go up north with some great friends from work and stay at the Haynes' cabin. We had a blast with the Lamberts and the Haynes.
We were all talking one afternoon and Tyler provided some pretty interesting insight to the size of our family...

Heidi: Jon, how many people are in your family?
Me: I am the oldest of 3.
Heidi: What about you Kristin?
Kristin: I am the oldest of 6.
Tyler (without being asked): I am the oldest of 4!

It's Football Time

Our friend Doug Reed came over to watch the first football game of the season with us tonight. Looks like Tyler is ready for the season:

Doug: Tyler, who is your favorite football team?
Tyler: um, I don't know.
Doug: Do you like the Cardinals?
Tyler: No.
Me: Do you like the Bears (figuring it's an animal he likes)
Tyler: Ooooo yeah, I like the Bears.
Tyler: Doug, I like the Seagulls.

Go Seagulls! Haha.

Tyler the Transformer

Here is what I learned from Tyler today:

Tyler: Dad, guess what? My last name is "Tyler Optimus Prime."
Me: Wow. Really? It is?
Tyler: Yup. All Tylers are Transformers.

This might actually be true because Tyler does seem to "transform" whenever we tell Tyler it is time to take his medicine...

Kristin: Ok Tyler, it is time to take your medicine.
Tyler (kicking and screaming): No, No, No, NO! It's gross, gross, gross. Mom, medicine is disgusting! Mom, this isn't fun for Tyler.

Yes Tyler, medicine time is not fun for any of us. HA.

Thank You Primay Teachers!

After a “father and son” teaching moment today:

Me: Tyler I am sorry that I hurt your feelings
Tyler: It is ok dad, just don’t do it again.

Tyler ran off to play.
Five minutes later Tyler comes back:

Tyler: Dad, thanks for saying sorry and Tyler forgives you.
Me: Thanks Tyler – and who taught you those words?
Tyler: My primary teachers.

As a parent this is awesome on several levels: First, Tyler knows what it means to forgive someone. Second, he really listens to his primary teachers on Sunday. Yay!

You know a 3 year old is sick when:

Tyler has been sick for the past four days. Poor little guy has had a fever and has been throwing up a lot. He finally went a whole day without throwing up so the doctor said to try to get him to eat:

Kristin: Tyler do you want a sandwich for dinner? (Current favorite food)
Tyler: No.
Kristin: Do you want chicken nuggets? (All time favorite food)
Tyler: No.
Kristin: Do you want pasta? (Another favorite)
Tyler: No.
Kristin: Do you want a taco?
Tyler: No.

So now I jump in:

Me: Tyler do you want cookies?
Tyler: No.
Me: Do you want ice cream?
Tyler: No dad.

Blogging: Round 2

A few months ago I decided to enter the blogging world and some of you may have received an invite to follow me at a blog called "That's All I Have To Say About That." I quickly realized that although I think my opinions matter and are important - no one wants to follow a blog where I rant about personal "soap box" issues and I don't blame anyone for that. I also found out that I lost interest in posting to it very quickly - so obviously if I am not interested in the blog why should anyone else be - Blogging Round 1 = fail.
So why dive into Blogging Round 2? My kids.

Kristin and I have the two most amazing little boys. Tyler is almost 4 and Rigby is almost 1.  If I had $1 for every time I have thought to myself "You need to write that down," after talking to Tyler, someone would be writing this for me or we could just have video cameras constantly rolling at our house. Instead of ranting and raving about meaningless issues I want to share with you what my kids share with me. If you know Tyler he is an entertainer and he can make things dramatic ( I have no idea where he got that from) and Rigby's personality is coming out more and more each day. Kristin keeps a blog about the big events in the family - I am going to focus on moments of "awesomeness." Thanks for following and I look forward to posting and hearing from all of you.
